Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Community Planning
Plan for the sustainable development of our cities and region with the Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Community Planning in Temple University’s Tyler School of Art and Architecture. This certificate in sustainable community planning is available to nonmatriculated students and students in other Temple University graduate programs, with the approval of their graduate advisor. This certificate meets the needs of public and private sector employees who work to improve the sustainability of cities, neighborhoods and regions and to address the adverse impacts of climate change without academic degrees in planning.
Elective courses provide the opportunity to deepen knowledge and training in specific areas of sustainability and environmental planning. Undertaking the Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Community Planning allows students to

develop indicators to monitor and evaluate the sustainability of site, community and regional actions, plans and designs;

interpret the discourse of theory and practice of sustainable development at the local, regional and global levels;

understand how to incorporate sustainability principles into planning practice to address the interrelationships between social, economic and environmental factors; and

recognize models of sustainability and know how to use such models to inform their professional practice.
