Boyer alumnus, David Carpenter, to Premiere Opera in New York
Posted Oct. 17, 2013
For his dissertation, David Carpenter (DMA '11, Composition) composed an opera based on Edith Wharton's novel, The Age of Innocence. Dr. Maurice Wright was his faculty advisor.
Eight scenes from Carpenter's opera will premiere November 17 at 3pm, at Christ & St. Stephen’s Church, 120 W. 69th Street, New York. Admission is free.
Carpenter notes that he received a Presidential Fellowship and Dissertation Completion Grant while at Temple which allowed him the time and freedom to write the opera. He also acknowledges the "superb" faculty at Boyer.
