Questions About the Program and Curriculum
- How is the curriculum designed?
- Students in this program will follow the same program as the Early Childhood Education majors until the spring of their junior year. During the spring of their junior year, students admitted into the 4+1 Program will take 3 hours of graduate level credit in SPED 5211 (in lieu of SPED 3211) and then in the fall of their senior year they will take 6 credit hours in SPED 5187 and 5106 (in lieu of SPED 4105 and SPED 4106). Students apply to the graduate program in spring of their senior year, and, if admitted into the program, continue into the Masters program during their fifth year.
- What is the exact degree you will receive if you complete this program?
- Students will be earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in Early Childhood Education and a Master of Education degree in Special Education with a teaching certificate in Special Education. Within the Master’s program students specialize in one of the three tracks: Mild Disabilities, Severe Disabilities, or ABA/Autism Spectrum track.
- After graduating from this program, what will my certifications be?
- Upon successful completion of the 4+1 Program, students will be certified in Early Childhood Education (pre-K – 4) and Special Education (pre-K – 8).
- Will we student teach in both a special needs classroom and an early childhood classroom?
- YES
- If I am admitted into the program, what are the requirements to stay in academic good standing and to continue in the program?
- Students must earn a B or higher in all of their graduate level classes. Students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA .
Students are also required to graduate with their Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 4 years and graduate with their Masters degree by the end of the 5th year.

- Will my tuition rate change?
- Students are charged undergraduate tuition rates for the 9 hours of graduate level courses they take while completing their undergraduate degree. Once admitted ino the Graduate program, students are charged graduate level tuition. You can see the most current tuition rates available at the Bursar's Office.
