March 13, 2012

Once again, Temple University School of Medicine (TUSM) is listed as one of the top-ranked medical schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in its 2013 Best Medical Schools rankings. TUSM was ranked #47 among medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education nationwide, and performed second among Philadelphia’s medical schools.

To earn its position on the Best Medical Schools list, TUSM has demonstrated excellence in a variety of ways, including its selectivity in student admissions, its reputation among peer institutions and residency directors, and its level of research activity.

TUSM has attracted $125.7 million in National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants in 2011, averaging $261,300 per faculty member.

To put this in perspective, only Stanford ($391,000 per faculty member, and ranked number 4), University of California, San Francisco ($271,300, ranked number 5), Yale ($313,700, ranked number 7), and University of Chicago ($328,100, rank tied for 10th) top Temple in average grant support per faculty member.

TUSM continues to grow and sustain its national reputation by implementing a number of key initiatives that expand inter-professional research collaborations and target investments in the most promising, cutting-edge research areas.
