TEMPLE AUTOIMMUNITY CENTER
A Message from Marc Monestier, MD, PhD
Director, Temple Autoimmunity Center
Professor, Microbiology and Immunology
The mission of the Temple Autoimmunity Center is to foster collaborative research in the field of autoimmunity, to train future generations of scientists committed to study autoimmune diseases, and to increase awareness in the community of the impact of autoimmune diseases on people's lives.
We are a group of basic scientists and physician scientists with a common interest in understanding the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases and generating novel therapeutic approaches in tolerance induction and immune modulation. We combine diverse autoimmunity expertise, from basic mechanisms of innate and adaptive immunity, to animal models of diseases, to translational medicine. We have the expertise and commitment to offer an inter-departmental and multi-disciplinary program of basic, preclinical and clinical research aimed to improve treatment and prevention of autoimmune diseases.
The collaborative nature of our mission encourages us to expand the scientific interests of the group with the admission of new members.
Our educational mission is directed to medical students, undergraduate and graduate students, residents and postdoctoral and clinical fellows to increase interest and knowledge of autoimmune diseases. Hands-on experience is the best incentive for young people to consider research in their plans for career development, and we offer short and long internships for undergraduate, medical students, residents and fellows. We organize a series of monthly seminars with inside speakers to identify potential collaborations, as well as prominent investigators from other institutions to increase our visibility and provide our trainees with the most recent and cutting-edge science in the country.
One of the goals of the Temple Autoimmunity Center is to assist in recruiting and supporting junior faculty working in autoimmunity and to help them start their independent careers through mentoring and collaborations with senior and experienced investigators.
