John DiCarlo is Temple University’s Student Media Program Director. He advises The Temple News (Temple’s student newspaper), Templar (Temple’s annual undergraduate yearbook) and WHIP (Temple’s student-run Internet radio station). He came to Temple in October of 2001 after spending almost four years as a sports writer at The Daily Journal, a Gannett newspaper in Vineland, NJ, where he covered everything from the Indianapolis 500 to the Philadelphia Eagles and won a New Jersey Press Association award for his coverage of high school sports in southern New Jersey.
Di Carlo is a Temple graduate, having earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 1998 and a master’s degree in Broadcasting, Telecommunications and Mass Media in 2006. Di Carlo is a member of several professional student media organizations, including the Associated Collegiate Press, College Media Advisers and the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association. He is a member of CMA’s national New Media committee and facilitated workshops and sessions at CMA’s fall and spring college media conventions in Kansas City and New York City in 2008. He also served as a speaker at the 2007 Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Philadelphia as part of its Break with a Professional session.
