Writing Center Events for International Students
For the most up-to-date list of events, please see our events flyer. You can also check our Facebook Page (facebook.com/templewc) or our Twitter feed @TempleWriting for regular event updates. A summary of our usual events can be found below.
Monthly Meet and Greets: Come meet the Conversation Partner staff, enjoy snacks, and play games. Meet and greets are usually hosted from 4:30-5:30 on Fridays once a month.
Listening and Discussion Groups: Approximately 3 times a semester, we host discussion groups that focus on the following topics:
- listening and responding to lectures
- understanding colloquial English in English-medium television and film
Our discussion groups are typically 1-2 hours long and end with a short discussion of the videos or films watched. International students will typically discuss the content with a native or near-native speaking Conversation Partner, alumnus, or volunteer.
Language Lunches: Usually hosted twice a semester, these lunches include a targeted discussion on a specific topic (for example, politeness customs in the U.S.). Panelists are selected from our staff, as well as outside alumni and staff members, to provide insights on a particular topic.
Film Series: We screen films and TV shows every other Friday at 2:30 in the Writing Center classroom. All movies and shows are followed by a 20 to 30-minute discussion led by one of our Conversation Partners.
If you are interested in attending one of our events, please email Elisabeth Ursell (firstname.lastname@example.org) to confirm your participation.
