Master of Arts in Business Economics

Advance your knowledge in economics and learn how to apply it to business and economic problems with the Master of Arts in Business Economics from Temple’s College of Liberal Arts (CLA). This unique 30-credit graduate degree is the only program in the region aligned with the National Association of Business Economists (NABE) guidelines and enables students to take the Certified Business Economists exam

Gain an advanced understanding of the core theories of microeconomics and macroeconomics and how to employ calculus as an analytical tool. You will also become familiar with the current empirical tools used by professional economists as well as commonly used statistical and data manipulation packages, such as STATA, R and PYTHON.  

The Business Economics MA program is aligned with parallel university programs like CLA’s Master of Public Policy and Fox’s Master of Business Administration. This interdisciplinary approach allows students to tailor coursework to their professional goals and streamline the earning of certificates and joint degrees.

Program Format & Curriculum 

Business Economics MA courses take place on Temple’s Main Campus in the evenings to accommodate working professionals.  

Full-time students can complete the graduate program in one year by taking the Quantitative Methods course in the summer, four courses in the fall and spring terms, and the capstone in the first summer session. Part-time students will be able to complete the program in two years. 

The program includes 10 courses, five of which are required (six if students wish to take the certification exam). The following 18 credits of coursework are required.

  • Macroeconomic Theory with Calculus 
  • Masters Writing Seminar 
  • Microeconomic Theory  
  • Quantitative Methods in Economics

Tuition & Fees

In keeping with Temple’s commitment to access and affordability, this Master of Arts offers a competitive level of tuition with multiple opportunities for financial support.

Tuition rates are set annually by the university and are affected by multiple factors, including program degree level (undergraduate or graduate), course load (full- or part-time), in-state or out-of-state residency, and more. These tuition costs apply to the 2024–2025 academic year.

Pennsylvania resident: $1,105.00 per credit
Out-of-state: $1,518.00 per credit
