Every year, Tyler students benefit from exposure to scores of artists, scholars, architects, designers and professionals who are at the top of their fields. Students meet with these inspiring individuals through lectures, class visits, demonstrations and more—including three diverse lecture series and two major speaker programs. Careers
Pursuing a historic preservation degree will develop your skills in design, history and theory, building technology, and research methods. Students learn versatility and technical skills while becoming adept in traditional practice and new technologies. Graduates are prepared to enter a competitive workforce and apply their knowledge and creativity to tackle society’s toughest challenges.
Graduates of the Historic Preservation Major program are equipped to work under the supervision of an architect or an architectural historian to document historical buildings, undertake archival research or other more general aspects of architectural practice not requiring licensure. Graduates are prepared to apply for graduate studies in architecture, historic preservation or a related discipline.
Students will gain foundational knowledge that prepares them for a breadth of career paths including the following.

Temple’s Career Center is another resource that empowers students to find pathways to future success. The Career Center offers comprehensive career development services, from résumés and interviews, to finding internships and jobs.
The annual Architecture and Environmental Design Career Fair connects students of all majors and class levels to internship and full-time employment opportunities in built environment professions.
